STEPS TAKEN AFTER MANNYA RESIGNED

Following the resignation of the Education Department Superintendent General, Mr Modidima Mannya on January 23, citing death threats, the
MEC has taken the following steps to ensure that he came back to his position.

* He immediately informed the Premier, Rev Makhenkesi Stofile, of the withdrawal of his security guards by the police for collective
intervention against it;
* Phoned the National Minister of Safety and Security to assist by prevailing on Superintendent Msibi and Company;
* Arranged a meeting with the Premier to discuss steps to be followed to prevent this happening in future
In the meeting that the MEC held with the Premier on Wednesday the following was resolved:

* That Mannya (after Treasury and Education had made funds available) be provided with security of the department contracted for a period
of a year, renewable.

The MEC made an appeal to Mannya to apply his mind to the matter and discuss it with himself and the Premier so that they can resume work
urgently.

Nevertheless, attempts by both MEC Sizani and the National Department of Education to persuade Mannya to return to the province have been
in vain as he has shut down all lines of communication. Nobody is able to contact him

Mannya had submitted his resignation letter to the Premier on Tuesday, January 23. Subsequent to this was a letter from the Premier
accepting Mannyas resignation in terms of G2.3 of the Public Service Regulation, 1999.
